Skydiving and roller coaster riding can be compared only in that both offer up a full serving of adrenaline. However, your safety and enjoyment on a roller coaster does not directly involve a skilled hands on professional Instructor as is required with a tandem skydive. With a tandem skydive, it is critical that your instructor perform his or her duties with precision. Ocean City Skydiving uses three full time skydiving professionals, not a handful of part-time weekend only instructors. Our three full time instructors each have performed over ten thousand skydives in their careers thus far. We invite you to call the other skydiving centers in the area and ask how many instructors they have on staff and their experience levels. Ask them the experience of their least experienced instructor that you may be jumping with. Larger volume skydiving centers may have as many as twenty instructors on staff. Some are full time jumpmasters who skydive full time for a living but many are part time junior jumpmasters who may only teach skydiving on the weekends. Do you really want an instructor who devotes their attention to skydiving for two days out of the week skydiving with you? This "Box of Chocolates" approach to skydiving instruction, where you may or may not have a full time experienced Instructor, will not occur at Ocean City Skydiving. We employ the same three full time instructors for 100% of our jumps. Of course there is no such thing as a perfect instructor, but experience certainly reflects performance.
We implore you to do your own student safety research on area skydiving centers. Call them and inquire about instructor experience. Ask if there have been any serious student accidents and if so, what were the circumstances? Ocean City Skydiving Center's safety record is perfect to date. The worst student injury sustained was a sprained ankle. Additionally, the center you are considering should be an accredited USPA skydiving center. Check out www.USPA.org for a drop zone listing to ensure where you skydive is an accredited Group Member.
Remember, think twice about bargain shopping and skydiving. Lower prices usually result from lower costs, i.e. instructor pay, equipment, and aircraft maintenance.
