Make it Count Monday: How to make the most of your time when you have none

If there's one thing I've gotten particularly good at over my 650 skydives it's packing my parachute fast and making the most of the jump. For one, you can't jump with an unpacked parachute (okay, yes technically you can, but we're not going to go there in this post) and most of the time, you can't even put your name in manifest with an unpacked parachute. I learned very early on in my skydiving career to plan ahead and pack quickly (and safely) to keep the jumps flowing. Additionally, for someone who loves the thrill of freefall, there's limited time to cram in all the fun before you should pull your parachute... 45-60 seconds goes by quickly so you have to plan that time to make the most of it! As my mentor used to day: plan the dive, dive the plan. Even in the world of indoor skydiving when you don't have to worry about pulling your parachute or paying attention to altitude so much, the time you're spending in the tunnel is valuable and doesn't come cheap! Sure, it's more cost effective than jumping from planes, but tunnel time adds up and every second counts.

The same applies to life and your workouts. Being in the health and wellness industry for over a decade, and especially in fitness centers, I've heard the "I don't have time" excuse more times than I can express. Here's the thing... you do have time, you just have to use it wisely. Time is absolutely our most valuable resource. Time is our most valuable currency. Time is the most important thing in your life so how you spend it needs to be important as well!

It's a common myth that workouts need to be an hour or two hours to be effective. Nothing could be further from the truth! The key is in the intensity level. If you only have twenty minutes to sweat, those twenty minutes need to be jam-packed with high intensity moves to be truly effective in helping you attain your goals. It's not always going to be fun, but it's going to be worth it and the bonus of going balls to the walls for those time-crunched sweat sessions, is the pain is over relatively quickly. Try these high intensity interval exercises for a super effective speedy workout in a pinch!


I had a jump pilot who used to use the phrase "proper planning prevents poor performance." I use this motto when it comes to my meal preparation to help keep me on track. Once a week I take a little extra time (like 20 minutes, tops) and pre-make a few grab-n-go breakfast and lunch options. Meal planning and preparation does not have to be a painstakingly long task if you have a plan! I never regret the time spent creating these easy options, but I always regret it when I don't meal prep... Not sure where to start? A few of my simple favorites are turkey sausage egg muffins with spinach or overnight oats for breakfasts and mason jar salads for lunches. The salad jars are so simple, they're really a no-brainer... in less than 7 minutes, I have 5 lunches prepped for the week that are literally grab-and-go. Whether you're skydiving and trying to pack in as much fun in your freefall as possible, or constantly on the go just trying to figure out how to fit in health and wellness, making the most of every minute and planning ahead is key. If you only have time to fit in short bursts for your workouts, make those minutes count and bump up the intensity level with less rest in between! And if you take a few extra minutes once a week to have some healthy options ready, you've already gotten ahead of yourself and prepped for success. Make your Monday count by making your minutes count when you can!
